Tensions have simmered to the point of violence in the investigation of Sisko Ancheta, leader of the Agila presidential security corps. A field reporter for The Maharlikan has verified that Alvin Chua, senior investigative lead in the Maharlikan government’s Internal Affairs unit, was found dead by hanging in his home in Mandaluyong earlier this morning.
Chua was the senior sponsor in the corruption case against Ancheta, which gained international attention thanks to the unconventional tactics of his partner, junior officer Paolo Malaya.
Malaya was best known prior to this case as a Golden Sun designee and sole survivor in the Maharlikan Moon Corps’ victory against the Western United Front’s lunar brigade. Malaya’s reputation as a war hero may have shielded him from the consequences of publicly exposing a high-ranking official—but those around him, it appears, may not be as lucky.

“If the court finds Ancheta guilty of Malaya’s allegations, he has committed a tremendous abuse of power and is unbefitting of the legacy of the institution that is Agila,” a spokesman for the President’s office said in a statement last week.
Opposition party leader Angelo Liwanag, Sr., however, denounced the statement as an empty gesture. “Make no mistake: the President’s office knew of Ancheta’s treachery and tolerated it for years,” Liwanag said in an interview this morning. He highlighted an overhaul of the Agila presidential security corps as part of his election campaign platform.
“Two things can be true,” a political commentator said in an online exchange with The Maharlikan under the condition of anonymity. “Ancheta and the president’s office have committed atrocious and self-serving acts under the guise of national security. But the only reason this is being taken seriously is because a powerful family like the Liwanags see it as their opportunity to snatch the crown.”
Chua’s partner, Paolo Malaya, could not be reached for comment. This is a developing story and we will report details about Chua’s death and the case against Ancheta as they become known.
The Maharlikan was shut down by the Liwanag administration in February 2018 amid accusations of tax fraud, three months after the disappearance of its Chairman.
